† Each dilution is 1:100 (1:102)

Standard Course 30C

1:1, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000.

This is equivalent to a single molecule in a sphere whose diameter is only slightly less than the distance between the Sun and the Earth, or approx 1.767×1033m3). [Thanks to Ben Goldacre at Bad Science for the analogy.]

Lecturer’s Note

The fact that this final figure is many orders of magnitude above the number of molecules in the universe has nothing to do with the actual memory (but don’t ask us how to make the water forget it’s been programmed with something), and we conveniently ignore another fact that each molecule of water on the planet has passed through countless billions of iterations of oceans and streams and clouds and animals and people, so according to our own dilution beliefs will already contain all the cures you could ever need – all free.

The water remembers when the bottle is hit against the leather cushion, which is filled by real horsehair! This part is extremely important, and omitting mention of it will lead to some of us to accuse our detractors that we are being made to look stupid (as if we needed any help in that department).
